Client: The Bradfield Centre
Design & Specification: Ralph + Smith
The Bradfield Centre, a collaborative entrepreneurial community of innovative technology startups encouraging collaboration and growth, were looking to redesign the ground floor of their office space located in Cambridge Science Park. Ralph + Smith led this redesign project, working to create an efficient and visually effective environment for all those who work at and visit the premises. This refurbishment was initiated with the ambition to support the companies’ goal of accelerated growth and enhanced collaboration within flexible workspaces and community programmes. Towards this refurbishment, Workagile provided Huddlebox, our modular tiered seating system which encourages collaboration and creativity in the modern workplace.
The Design:
Ralph + Smith used the buildings architectural structure to inspire the design of the ground floor – using the distinct curved walls as the foundation, soft geometry was reflected within the furniture pieces and patterns. This style represented the novelty of The Bradfield Centre and the young entrepreneurs, researchers and students that use the facilities. Using lighting systems to their advantage, Ralph + Smith spread a sense of modernity and warmth throughout the new reception area, boardroom and lobby.
The use of our Huddlebox seating ensured a set space for teams to collaborate in a less pressured environment, encouraging relaxed work and informal discussions. With Birch MFC and light green seat pads, this seating not only enhanced the work environment functionally, but also aesthetically. With splashes of yellows, greens and biophilia throughout the floorplan, the whole environment was injected with life and energy, contributing towards the positive experience of visitors.
The Results:
Overall, Ralph + Smiths work resulted in a clean, cohesive environment, with a contemporary energy reflective of the company. Intentional furniture and design choices led to an impressive, functional space that will likely improve the well-being of individuals working in this space. Using modular furniture, such as our Huddlebox, the possibility of reconfigurations within the communal space was opened, allowing the furniture to grow and adapt alongside the companies’ needs and desires.
